IAS 2 sets out the accounting treatment for inventories, requiring them to be measured at the lower of cost and net realisable value. It defines cost components, methods such as FIFO and weighted average, and provides guidance on recognising inventory write-downs, ensuring that inventories are reported at amounts expected to be realised.
