Welcome to our course on the Municipal Finance Management Act – or MFMA, in short, was implemented in 2004 to modernise municipal financial management and lay a sound foundation for sustainable service delivery.  In this course, we will discuss the following fundamentals:

As you begin this course, you are stepping into the practical world of legislation in the municipal environment.  

This course unpacks the fundamentals of legislation in local government to help municipal officials and stakeholders understand their responsibilities and strengthen financial governance. Across three focused videos, we explore:

• The roles and responsibilities of the Accounting Officer, CFO, and management.
• How to prepare and present effective reports in line with MFMA requirements.
• Key highlights of the Municipal Systems Act and its link to the MFMA.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid foundation to apply the fundamental legislation within the local government.
